Running a business is not for the faint hearted. I have to say that the challenges over the last 10 years of running Vivian's staff have been like a revolving door.
One bad egg in the mix and the whole culture changes and it makes everyone unsettled and go into instability.
Finally, after 10 years and a lot of work from my son Trent who works extremely hard on getting the culture right, we believe we have a great team. A team who is prepared to put themselves out there, help each other and there is no gossip.
Gossip is a real killer and shouldn't be entertained in any work environment, if you cannot say what you think to a work colleague then perhaps you shouldn't be there. Me I don't have any issues of saying what I think, perhaps I am a little to frank and direct, but I am trying my best to consider people's feelings and think before I say something - but I still say it.
Real Estate has always been a revolving door with the 3 companies I have worked for, but a lot of staff left because they were not valued and there was definite favorites within the group which I do not entertain.
Some of the things that makes a good staff member in my eyes:
- Says good morning to all the staff
- arrives on time if not 10-15 minutes early to make their coffee
- offers support where they can
- comes up with ideas to increase your bottom line
- joins in with events and offers to help
- problem solves then comes to you with a solution
- tells you when they are going through something so to be gentle with them
- informs you if something isnt going right in the office
