SENIORS

 Over the past 26 years I remember knocking on people's door asking if I could do an appraisal - so many said yeah sure you can but I am leaving this house in a box - my standard reply was if you can put my appraisal on top of your box I would be happy with that - laughter usually follows as they can see the funny side of what I was saying to them.

It has now come to a time of those original people who are now in their 80's either have lost their long-term partner and are now on their own. Now some cope and some don't. It's very important that seniors move before it becomes way too hard for them.

Stress kills a lot of our seniors, so we handle them with kit gloves and try to give them the right advice about them moving or not moving. Families have a lot to do in their own lives so helping their parents becomes extremely hard and sometimes overwhelming. The major thing is that they get the help and right advice that they need to make sure they are not to overwhelmed themselves.

I suppose it's a case-by-case decision as I have known a lot of these people for many years I can make a decision if they can handle a move or not.

It's very sad when it comes to the time they have to let go of their prized possessions as their families don't want anything they have their own stuff. It does break their heart to let a lot of their things go and they need to take just a few pieces with them (you have to remember it's their story of their life as well). Heart breaking sometimes to see their pain and anguish, that's why it's important to do it at a certain age rather than leaving it until they are over 85.

Fortunately, we have moved a lot of seniors into their last place, and they have settled in and are starting to make new friends on where they are currently living. I think loneliness is what a lot of our seniors suffer from and by moving into a place where there are a lot of others the same age is much better for their mental health and wellbeing.

Look after your Mum, Dad & grandparents they are very special people and in the grand scheme of things are not here for a long time so treasure those special moments with these very special people.
