FIRE SAFETY

Interesting isnt it that since that devastating fire in a high rise building called Grenfell in Europe Australia has gone into a frenzy about making sure that all our buildings comply - really why all of a sudden do you think that all our buildings are going to go on fire?
Have to say though that building had flammable cladding, no sprinkler systems, single fire stairs and no building alarm.

Dozens of government agencies and all major property companies are working together to improve fire safety standards and deal with non-conforming building products.

Western Australia are undertaking reviews of large buildings (ones that were built over 30-40 years ago have not got anywhere near the new regulations that they need of today) if they are going to try and make them comply its going to be extremely difficult and very costly for all owners of those buildings.

Australia has fire safety standards that are among the strongest in the world - yep I would agree with that statement - we are such a huge nanny state you cannot do anything here in the country without getting a permit for moving a brick.

You know what the trouble is that no one actually checks when a building is completed, there is no government body that actually checks up to see that they have actually built what they said they were going to build.  Just look at our new children's hospital for instance what a debacle that has become.!!

In all seriousness we have not had a major catastrophe here in Australia, all our Governments do is a knee jerk reaction.  We are so hindered by all our rules and regulations now you cannot perceive every thing in this world and certainly you cannot protect everyone.  Someone is going to light a bloody candle and go out and leave it burning its people you cannot protect everyone.  We have strong enough laws in this country as it is dont try and make it impossible for everyone.

CHU is now going around inspecting all buildings (old ones) and trying to give them a list of what they say are compliance issues that the building needs to upgrade to.  Seriously you have been taking our money for years and never bothered before and there has been no fires in our buildings - not to say there wont ever be of course, as I said you cannot control every occupant but you cannot cover every scenario either.
