When you get into your late 70's coming into your 80's you actually need to make some life changing decisions and decisions before it's just too late and you are trapped in a home that no longer works for you.
This can be a very stressful time for this person as they have all their "things" they have gathered over many years and holds so many memories for people (I am guessing why so many people just don't bother to move house).
What we have found is that we give some names and numbers to people that come in de clutter go through all the "stuff" in the house, downsize you and help with making those decisions as depending on where you are going as to what you can take with you.
If you have steps and you are becoming unsteady on your feet and you already have handrails put up and yet you are still having these falls, this is definitely the time to call it quits.
Family might not be the ones to actually help you as they don't want your "stuff" as they have their own and they really are too close to the situation to be of any real help and they will offend you if they say throw that out.
Its really a tough decision and to be honest what is your options: retirement home (there are some nice ones around but they are pricey) there are no small single level homes for seniors to buy in their local area, new apartments. Pretty hard to go to a unit when you have lived in a big house all your life.
There are real issues with the selection of properties you actually have to choose from.
