After talking with a lot of people that seem to have saved a lot of money over the last 18 months as they are not travelling overseas and they are a bit un certain on how the economy was going to go they just kept saving.
You actually need to talk with a financial planner/advisor and get some direction as from my own experience what everyone should have been doing is thumping that mortgage as hard and as fast as they can (with a redraw facility) Usually you have an offset account or something like that, but that's the advice you need to talk with a financial planner.
We use Yvette Fernandez from DZL Wealth, broker, planner and she is a fully fledged accountant so yes she can do you a good plan alright (no planning fee either, think they can go up to $3,000 too!!)
Its not rocket science but whilst those interest rates are low (they will go up be rest assured of that) you should be getting rid of your debit.
Take some time and invest on talking to Yvette it will be well worth your while.
