You better know your responsibilities here or you could be in for a massive shock?
Just lately I have been rung up several times by owners who live in their strata titled lot, they have been on their Council as a member not in a Treasurer, Secretary or a Chairman role just as a Councillor - well guess what you can be sued just the same.
Some people just feel they are getting bullied when they are on the Council by people who also dont know what they are doing and they are offering to pay me to come and be their proxy for them so I can try and pull them into line. The trouble is that these people just have no idea what they are doing and what they can be sued for either. Rules have changed and liabilities have also changed so you better get ready and get to know your stuff.
Exclusive Strata Management Services will be putting together some information evenings and it will most likely cost $25 to attend - I suggest you go to as many as you can and get that Jake Kneebone on side (even if they are not your current strata managers he will always try to help you and if you are lucky you may get free advice). My advice to anyone that sits on the Council of Owners please get yourself some knowledge as those decisions you are making for others in the group could end up costing you personally.
There is no excuse in today's world for ignorance and the judge will tell you that.
It's better to know what you can and cannot do rather than sail by the seat of your pants.
