DESIRED AREAS OUT OF NEW BUYERS REACH

For some time now I have been saying that first home buyers have to scale down their expectations of what is going to be their first home - perhaps they should buy a property and live in it and then rent it out and go rent where they want to live and what they want to live in.

The paper today (Saturday 22/11/2014) - some extracts from it and of course my comments

A majority of first home buyers are being priced out of buying in their desired suburbs.
the 2014 survey done by (mortgage choice) canvassed more than 1000 future first home buyers across the nation who planned to buy a property in the next two years (well good luck with that).

It showed that 57.5 per cent of fhb in WA would not be able to buy in their desired area, higher than the nation result of 54.3 percent.
Of those WA respondents who indicated they would not be able to buy where they wanted to 87 percent said it was because "the area was simply out of their price range" (yes because they keep thinking house instead of units)

Many fhb are having to compromise on location this is been happening for a while as no one has been educating them they dont have to buy a house, units/villas/townhouses should be in their sights.

Your first property is usually to get your foot in the door.  Alot of fhb are buying in suburbs next to or close to their preferred suburb.  (Let's face it the Western Suburbs is just about out of reach for them right now if they are thinking house, they are only allowed $420,000 now and that will buy you a unit - so go buy one I say).
Young people soon find out that the house and land is not exactly great as they have to keep maintaining it and that cramps the lifestyle they have become so use to - welcome to our world !! 

The amount of apartments now being built Australians are going to have to change their attitude on them, as they carve up big blocks now and put in smaller ones and some of them are under the 200m2 - wow !!

Get in first home buyers (fhb) is what I say, compromise on what you think you might like and just buy an apartment, if you are handy with your hands by a blank canvass one and have some fun doing it up.
