With the tightening of everyones belts the Council's are no different (although you wouldnt think that when you see what they spend a lot of money on).
It will come to fruition that the Club's (sporting or not) will have to pay a reasonable amount of rent and possibly dont expect to much help from their Council's.
The rates have become so expensive and so have the cost of running a council it's pretty obvious that maybe the smaller councils should amalgamate to reduce a lot of running costs.
For instance it costs $14 million roughly to run the Mosman Park Council - of that $4 million is wages/salaries, huge ground staff to keep all of those 30+ parks in order. Some people say that we should look at the parks and do a study on them to find out which ones are the most used etc. I think that the legalities have gone so fast and they need to keep to certain States rules and regulations its pretty hard for Councils to keep up.
I dont know what the answer is, yes amalgamation could be a good start then 2-3 Councillors representing each suburb would be a huge cost cutting exercise. One thing is for sure it cannot just keep going like it is.
The whole system is so outdated and clunky - we are relying on people making the right decisions for us and are they the right decisions?
