Years ago airconditioning was not really done in apartments, cost thing, space thing and they were not as cheap as they are now.
As time has gone on and aircons are so much cheaper now everyone has them.
Some apartment buildings have been proactive and provide owners with a specific type of airconditioner with a particular noise level allowed, positioning of the compressor etc.
What has been a struggle though is a lot of these complexes cannot actually physically put them in as there is not enough amps in the current electrical wiring to be able to accommodate everyone. Now that's a tough one alright and we have not come across it yet but I am sure it will raise it's ugly head some time. (just by the way any buildings that have been not been re wired in the last 50-60 years - you have a shock coming your way).
A particular complex that I am involved with we have pergolas at the front and all the balconies have two drain holes with pipes coming out of them (obviously for the drainage when water accumulates on the balcony). What we didnt figure on though is that more and more people have purchased airconditioners and have had them fitted. The trouble is there has been no provision for the water that comes from them and they have been dripping onto the pergola in the middle of the night and apparently it sounds like a hammer hitting it.
MAJOR PROBLEM !!
If you dont get your sleep during the night how grumpy are you going to be the next day? I will tell you - very bloody grumpy.
If anyone has any ideas please email me these ideas. The idea that we have so far is to put shade cloth just above the pergola and when the water hits it will dissipate and then you wont hear the water landing on the pergola. (I am getting a quote on this right now).
I have also printed off a notice to all people living in the complex with aircons to please put their hose into a bucket or a watering can or something to avoid the water coming straight through those drain holes, but if people say "whatever" then it will continue to keep on dripping wont it so hence why we need a plan B.
Everything is solvable you just need to spread it around to get ideas from people that may have experienced similar issue. Any help would be much appreciated.
MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION AND GIVE IT A REAL GO !!
